Sinus Lifting and Grafting

Sinus lifting is a surgery that adds bone to your upper jaw in the area of your molars and premolars. To make room for the bone, the sinus membrane has to be moved upward, or "lifted." Thus, a vertical space is created for your implant. This procedure can be done in 2 ways, called “open” and “close”. This is decided after your x-ray examination.

Do I Really Need Sinus Lifting?

Sinus Lifting has became a routine procedure within in the development of augmentation techniques and materials. It is applied in the upper jaw molar region. If you lose a molar tooth, the replacing implant should be the same length and width as your extracted molar tooth. If the residual bone after tooth extraction is not enough for a molar implant then sinüs lifting is needed. This situation must be explained clearly by the dentist and understood very well by the patient. Sometimes smaller implants are being applied to patients, in order to avoid sinus lifting, which may lead to early implant losses and problems.
